High-priority violations: Alachua County restaurant inspections
·
The article written on January 23, 2019, mentions
a list of restaurants that had a various violation of the Florida Department of
Business & Professional Regulations. After a series of inspections, 13 restaurants
and fast food places in the area of Gainesville were accused of not fulfilling
the hygienic requirements established in the state.
·
After a few inspections local places like Red
Lobster, Subway, Red Robin, among others, weren’t following the sanitary regulations.
Some violations such as foods not being stored at the right temperature,
working with ingredients without gloves or using the same utensils for
different ingredients. It is a big problem because such regulations are made to
protect customers by avoiding allergic attacks from mixing inappropriate ingredients,
or to avoid putting in risk customer’s health from infections from debris, and
so on.
·
It is a problem for all Gainesville residents,
specially for loyal customers of the companies mentioned in the article.
Gainesville delivery services expand options for staying in
·
The article starts with the story of a woman
that does food deliveries for Bite Squad, and how convenient it is for her because
of the flexibility of the schedule and the safety of the job. Then the author
starts talking about how multiple food delivery companies have come to
Gainesville and have created a competitive market for such service. They also
talk about how this market has grown in the last few years and use some
testimonies from local residents to better explain the situation
·
In this case I think it is an opportunity and
has a positive impact in the Gainesville community, because a competitive
market means that companies will be doing their best to offer the best service
at the best price. Also, it gives residents an opportunity for another source
of income and increases the earnings and expenses in the area of UF.
·
Ultimate customers will have the opportunity to
get their food delivered faster and efficiently, thanks to an increase in
supply of companies like Bite Squad, and gives them the option at the same time
to start making money by becoming a delivery driver whenever they want.
Florida-Cuba travel is in flux. Some airlines want in and others opt out.
·
This article written on January 22, 2019, talks about
how air travel to Cuba is in a flux. It explains how multiple companies have
been opting out of the service by reducing their frequency of flights or disapproving
an expansion. On the other side American Airlines has taken over the market
share of USA-Cuba flights and has become “a near monopoly level of service”, as
stated by JetBlue, and added that “it would negatively impact other carriers”.
It says that after Obama’s opening in the relationship with Cuba carriers
assumed that it would continue, and it would be only a matter of time for the embargo
to be lifted. But after president Trump started his administration it only went
backward.
·
The problem stated in this article is how flights
to Cuba are covering demand effectively, due to unexpected shifts in
demographic preferences. Miami has an overwhelming demand and is not fully
attended while in other cities are having issues to fill the airplane’s seats
with passengers.
·
The problem and opportunity here exist for airlines,
which are having issues to properly identify patterns in customers willing to
flight to Cuba, and most of it is due to the unstable political relationship Cuba-USA.
Even out at sea, the air on cruise ships may be dirtier than you think,
study shows
·
The article goes about a study done by professor
Ryan Kennedy, from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health about air
pollution in four cruise ships last year. He found that the number of ultrafine
particles (which are harmful for the human body) is higher than expected on these
ships, and he even compared them to cities like Taipei and Beijing. The author includes
the reaction of cruise lines executives and their answers were basically that such
studies weren’t scientifically relevant and were inaccurate, and that while the
ship is moving there is no risk.
·
The problem-opportunity here is the finding that
probably air in cruise ships is not as healthy as the public thought and organizations
should dig deeper in this to find a real answer. It is proven that ultrafine
particles and harmful and carcinogens and laws should be established to protect
human lives.
·
In this case everyone traveling in a cruise will
be affected by the pollution in the air, and my biggest concern is the ship employees
who are exposed to such particles all the time.
Government shutdown strains emerge in US air travel system
·
This article talks about the aftermath of the
partial government shutdown for 34 days and counting. The author talks about
how airport staffs are very upset about the situation and cannot afford to go
to work without getting paid anymore. It also makes reference to the effect that
this is having in airlines, which have seen their revenues greatly affected due
to fear in public. David Koenig (the author) says that so far security and air
controllers haven’t been compromised, but the lack of TSA staff has created
long waiting lines in airports.
·
The problem is that due to the government
shutdown many federal employees are not receiving their paycheck and are very upset
about it. It’s been 34 days already and it has started to be visible the lack
of motivation and efficiency at work, a lot of people are absent to their
position and it is only getting worse
·
In this situation the most affected people by
the government shutdown is the airport staff, who depend on their wages to live
and some of them have kids to feed. It is very sad to here that, as always, blue
collars are the most affected by the decisions of the top executives of the
country.
Hi Enrique.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I like how you have put the article titles in bold, makes it very easy to read and makes it stand out. I found reading about your opportunities really interesting, especially the last one about the government shut down. This interests me the most because as an international exchange student I intend to travel whilst I am here, however the government shutdown complicates things. I enjoyed reading most of these stories.
Nice job!
I enjoyed reading your post especially because I also read a newspaper that focused on Gainesville which allowed me to learn so much new information about the city I will be spending a few years in. I also recognized the bite squad lady expanding their business tactics. I had no idea that even on cruise ship the air could be tainted which you think would not be the case due to the fact there is nothing surrounding you but I am not sure what kind of opportunity would present themselves in this situation but I am sure it would be fascinating. Thank you for your clean and precise post, it was very easy to read.
ReplyDeleteHi Enrique, I love that you kept all your choices related to local florida issues. I think the article regarding Cuban-American travel is very relevant and can play a big role economically moving forward. I think the article regarding delivery service in Gainesville was interesting and somewhat accurate, but I think its a little deceptive in creating the image that the food delivery market in gainesville is not already saturated, which it is. Overall, keeping your topics related to Gainesville and Miami kept me interested and somewhat informed because I had some minimal background information on every topic.
